How To Reduce Any Baby Defects or Risks While Pregnant

“I just want a healthy baby”.

How many times have you heard or said that?

Every pregnant woman’s desire is to have a healthy baby.

Yet so many women really pay no attention to diet and supplementation.

And I know I may sound like a broken record, but there literally is no more important time in your life for you to really pay attention to your nutrition as is PREGNANCY.

It matters… all of it.

Your baby is growing and developing with the food and vitamins you consume.

Your baby needs nutrients, vitamins and minerals in order to develop properly.

Yet Obstetricians give so LITTLE guidance on nutrition and its HUGE role for your baby and your pregnancy.

BLOWS.MY.MIND.

That is why I am so passionate about educating you on just how many health issues you can prevent for you and baby with the proper nutrition and supplementation.

It’s why I dove head first into the supplementation industry even though I really never had plans for it or wanted to deal with the huge headache, so much work and instability that the supplement industry brings.

But I knew that my ladies needed the education and also needed the actual vitamins to take that were high quality and medical grade so that the baby actually can absorb the benefits.

Are you willing to do whatever it takes to have a healthy baby?

I know, I know…, the answer is absolutely YES.

Well then, I hope you understand just how important your nutrition is during pregnancy.

Today I want to talk about reducing the risk for neural tube defects, intrauterine growth retardation, preeclampsia and early miscarriage.

Sounds pretty scary, right?

Well, that is what is at risk when you have a deficiency in Vitamin B12.

See, doctors recommend Folate, which is also a B vitamin because it reduces the risks for neural tube defects, but just as important, is B12.

Vitamin B12 helps keep the body’s nerve and blood cells healthy and helps make DNA, the genetic material in all cells,” explains Peter Shaw, M.D., chief medical officer of pharmaceutical company Emisphere.

How crazy important is that?

Yet no one tells us we should be taking B12.

I mean it helps make your baby’s DNA. This should be a MUST!

Did you know that 1 in 20 adults are deficient in Vitamin B12?

And most people don’t eat enough foods that are high in vitamin B12 which makes it even harder to consume the right amount.

Foods high in Vitamin B12 are:

  • Beef
  • Liver
  • Clams
  • Fish
  • Meat
  • Poultry
  • Eggs, milk, and other dairy products.
  • Fortified cereals

Not easy foods to consume, especially if you are like me and try to limit dairy since there’s not a lot of nutritional value and its inflammatory for the gut.

Which is why I always recommend taking a good quality Vitamin B12, like our Boost in the MMF Shop, which is medical grade & doctor-formulated.

Also, during pregnancy, your body uses up nutrients and vitamins extra fast because the baby needs them for development and growth, which then put you, the mother at risk.

This is why I am always adamant that its important to supplement during pregnancy because there is no way we are getting enough of these very important vitamins in our diet even when not pregnant, let alone while pregnant and the baby is pulling from them... leaving mama depleted.

Of course, always consult with your doctor before taking anything, but the sad thing is that most of them don’t know enough about nutrition and the role of nutrients and vitamins for the growth and development of the fetus and what deficiencies can do for a pregnant women.

But ask anyways!

There are so many more roles that Vitamin B12 has.

Vitamin B12 is vital for the formation of red blood cells, as well as for the proper functioning and health of nerve tissue.

It has been said that a deficiency can lead to anemia, as well as nerve and brain damage, which may eventually become irreversible.

These are pretty significant things aren’t they?

I don’t mean to scare you but I do want to make you SUPER AWARE of just how important nutrition and vitamins and supplements can be for pregnancy.

Check out this post, where I talk about The Most Important Vitamins For Pregnancy

Now to summarize and add a few more things, here are all the things Vitamin B12 can do during pregnancy:

  • Help in the absorption and digestion of food and proper metabolism (preventing gastric troubles during pregnancy.)
  • Helps in the smooth functioning of the nervous system during pregnancy.
  • Promotes healthy nerve, spine and brain development in the growing fetus.
  • Prevent the risk of anemia in pregnant women.
  • Helps boost the immune system during pregnancy.
  • Help effectively combat several pregnancy symptoms like fatigue, weakness, mood swings, constipation.
  • Helps in the production of DNA (the molecule that holds the genetic code for every cell in our body).

I hope you are motivated to eat more of these foods I listed above that are rich in B12, and if you don’t think you can get enough amounts of them, then I encourage you to take a good quality supplement.

Like I said, Boost, our Vitamin B12 Lozenges, are medical grade, doctor formulated and highly absorbable so that you can get all the benefits from them.

I take this daily even though I’m not pregnant as this is one vitamin we should always take.

I know that was a lot, but I wanted to make sure you are educated in everything you can do to increase your chances of having a healthy baby and pregnancy.

I have recently spoken to you about fish oil and vitamin D, which are also crucial to a healthy baby and pregnancy.

Funny, I take these everyday because its hard to get enough of these via my diet even though I eat super duper clean.

And because I am a type A, busy, easily stressed person lol I deplete these vitamins and nutrients quickly.

Vitamin B12 helps me have the energy I need to do all the things I do daily.

Its like my drug of choice lol. I don’t go a day with out it because it helps me so much.

Ok, my prego friend.

If you aren’t taking B12, it may be time to start.
