5 Tips To Help You Speed Your Metabolism & Burn More Fat

Have you ever had a friend that ate all the time, maybe not so healthy things but was super thin?

Yeah… I can think of several of them.

People “like them” tend to say… “I have a fast metabolism”.

Hate “those people” Lol.

Just kidding…

I was not one of those people, but became one.

You are not a victim of you metabolism.

There are things you can do to change your metabolism and speed it up to burn fat more efficiently. Which can make it easier for you to lose weight and get in shape.

That is what I want to share with you today. Different ways you can change your metabolism so you can lose weight and get fit more easily.

Warning, this post is a tad bit long, but I want to help you speed up your metabolism. I give you detailed explanations and pro tips that will help understand how you can get better results. So, stick around until the end.

Tips For Speeding You Metabolism (AKA Becoming A Fat Burning Machine)

Muscle is metabolically active tissue. It takes your body a lot of energy to maintain it, that basically means your body burns lots of calories just to maintain you muscle.

The more muscle you have, the harder you body has to work to maintain all of it (burning even more energy or calories). That is why you’ve heard the quote “the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn”.

Ok, I know you are gonna nod your head here now because you’ve probably heard me say this a million times.

Yes, my friend, if you want to speed up you metabolism, you are gonna have to do some weight training consistently.

Weight training done right is going to be the best and most effective way to build lean muscle.

It’s important to change your workouts every 4 weeks, including rep range, but a good number for gaining muscle is 12. If you want more information on why it is important, check out this post, The Secret to Getting Better Results From Your Workouts.

There are so many benefits to having more muscle.

Not only do you speed metabolism and your ability to burn fat, tighten your body and look smaller and leaner, you also improve insulin sensitivity.

Basically that means that since you have more muscle, you body has the ability to eat more carbs without a negative effect. You body gets really good at using the carbs for fuel, for energy.

Cardio is a great complement to a good weight training routine and if done right can help you also to burn fat for fuel.

Doing it before can make you burn muscle which in turn slows metabolism, defeating the whole purpose of weight training.

The reason is a bit scientific but basically it has to do with the type of fuel (Carbs and fat) that the body uses during both those types of workouts. Check out this post for the best kind of cardio you should be doing.

Short intense workouts are hard on the body oxygen and energy wise. Since it struggles to recover during the workout, you end up burning energy (Calories) after the workout is over.

Short intense workouts also release more adrenaline. Adrenaline helps mobilize fat more so you can use it as energy and burn it.

This is something that should not be abused. Its not something you should do all the time but maybe every other month or every 2 months, you can incorporate it into you 4 week workout routine.

Adding these kind of “Cardio” type exercises in between sets, causes your heart to pump faster, utilizing more oxygen and causing you body to burn more calories… accelerating metabolism.

What happens here is that since the workout was so intense and you lacked oxygen during many times throughout the workout, after the workout, your body has to make up for it. This is called EPOC – excess post oxygen consumption

Not all foods are created equal. Some are harder to digest and when they are harder to digest, your body has to work harder to break it down, burning more calories.

Digestion burns a lot of calories, if you are eating the right foods.

This is one sure way to speed metabolism, by eating foods that are thermic and make your body work hard to break them down.

  • Protein has 25% thermic effect
  • Carbs has 10-15% thermic effect
  • Vegetables is unknown but because fiber is incredibly hard to break down the body works crazy hard during digestion. This is why you should eat veggies in every meal.

Thermic effect means that for example: if you eat 100 calories of chicken (protein), you burn 25 calories just in the process of digestion. Check out this post for more thermic foods.

Muscle needs protein in order to grow. If you don’t eat enough protein, no matter how much you workout, you wont build muscle.

So try to eat a good amount of protein in every meal, even in your snacks.

If you have a hard time eating chicken and turkey, fish etc that many times a day, it may be a good idea to add in a protein shake a day, like mPower Protein.
