How To Manage Your Calories For Weight Loss 

Do you count calories?

Do you want to know how many calories you need to eat in order to be able to lose weight?

Well, sorry to break it to ya, but that is not going to happen right now.

Not with me.

I don’t believe in counting calories.

I just don’t think its a way to LIVE.

Now for all those crazy people getting all defensive, let me preface this by saying that if you do any sort of bodybuilding or physique competitions, then its a different story and it is understandable as to why you need to count calories.

But for the rest of us who are “trying to have a fit and healthy LIFESTYLE”, well my friend, counting calories is NO LIFESTYLE.

Actually,  it really aggregates me when people say they have this “lifestyle” but they live their lives counting every morsel of food that goes in their mouth.

A Diet Or A Lifestyle?

That to me sounds like a DIET, not a LIFESTYLE.

It’s like those Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig diets where you have to count every “point” that goes in your mouth.  

I don’t know about you, but that would drive me insane.

I think it actually makes people crazier and more obsessed with food than if they just learned to know how much food they should eat.

I mean, to have to sit there and measure out and and count every piece of food that goes in your mouth.  Having to think about that everyday, all day.  There is nothing “lifestyle” about that.

I can’t tell you how many people email me, or send me messages, or post questions on my social media pages asking me how many calories are in whatever recipe I posted.

And my answer is always the same……..

“I don’t know, I don’t count calories”.  I eat moderately and I have learned to know how much I need to eat in order to get a desired goal.

Most people can’t lose weight not so much because of their meals, but what they do in between and before and after meals.  The food they eat out of emotions.  You are most likely, eating out of emotion sometimes.  See how you can control this here:  The Strategy To Control Emotional Eating.

What I Want For Your

And that is what I want for you!

  • I want you to learn what a serving size should look like for YOU.
  • I want you to learn how to feel yourself out at certain times of the day and at different activity levels and know how much you should eat.
  • I want you to be able to look at your plate and know how much you need to eat in order to lose weight.  Instead of having to drive yourself nuts by weighing and measuring your food all day long……..   CRAZY!

I have been able to get in the best shape of my life and I never ever ever count calories.

I have been able to get people to lose tons of weight and get the leanest they have ever been and never ever did they count the calories in a meal.

Now that is what I call SUCCESS.

When you can understand how much fuel you need in order to feel good and look good.

When you can truly call it your LIFESTYLE because its sustainable.

Or are you going to count every calorie of every meal you put in your mouth FOREVER.

Because unless you can tell me that you can count calories in every meal you eat from now til the rest of your life, its not a LIFESTYLE, its a DIET.

If it was a lifestyle, it would have to be sustainable, enjoyable…………..

The Benefits of Calorie Counting Without Counting Calories

Ok, so I am going to guide you through how I teach my clients how to manage their calories so that they can LOSE WEIGHT without actually counting their calories.

This is what I do on an ongoing basis and I am able to live in a really good place.  I am in the best shape of my life after having 2 kids and I never feel like I’m dieting.

Here are the steps I teach my clients.


The Steps

First you have to make sure you are eating the right foods.

  • Eat a lean protein, healthy carbs and veggies in every meal. Here is a few grocery lists that you can print out and have with you.  If you stock up on these groceries, you will be able to make tons of optimal meals.  Grocery Pantry, Fridge and Freezer List
  • Eat a healthy meal every 2-4 hours in order to speed metabolism.

After a few weeks of eating the right foods and eating them at the proper times in order to speed metabolism, I have them write down what they eat for a week.  I ask them to be as specific as possible (without measuring or weighing.)

For example:  4 egg whites and 1/2 cup of uncooked oatmeal, a piece of chicken the size of my hand and about 1 cup of brown rice and about 1 1/2 of zucchini and squash, a piece of fish the size of my husbands hand, a sweet potato the size of my fist, and 2 cups of mixed veggies.

Once they are eating the right foods and at the right times, not skipping meals, etc.  Then we continue to eat those portions as long as they keep losing weight.

Once they get “Stuck” with their weight loss and they still have more to lose, then we start cutting back calories.

Before I talk about cutting back on calories, I want to make sure you are eating the proper foods.

And I want to make sure you are not eating one or more of foods on this list.  

Because if you are, it can be completely SABOTAGING your results.  

Yes, it’s totally be true that you can be working your butt off at the gym 6 days a week, eating super healthy (as you think), but if you are eating one or more of these foods, you will NOT BE ABLE TO LOSE WEIGHT.  

The reason is because these foods though some may think are healthy, are actually very inflammatory.

Inflammation in the digestive track makes it incredibly hard if not impossible to burn fat. So in order to be able to burn fat so you can lose weight effectively, its crucial that you take these foods out of your diet.

Cutting back calories 


Well, definitely not by measuring and weighing!

When you begin to cut calories, you don’t start by cutting 1000 calories a day, that would not be sustainable, plus you need to create a small change so that with time you can continue to add more changes or make more “cuts” in calories.  

A good number would be say cutting 200 calories a day.

So here is what I tell my peeps……

Whatever portions you were eating for the last few weeks, cut about 20% off of each food.  So if you have a piece of chicken the size of your hand, eat 20% less of it and just EYEBALL IT!.  However much rice you were eating, serve yourself 20% less of it.


Looking not Weighing/Measuring

They learn to manipulate their calories and weight loss by looking at their food.

I also teach them to listen to their bodies.

If they are more active during the first part of their days, have a little bigger portions or enough to feel satisfied.  In the latter part of the day, if they are less active, then they can eat a little smaller serving sizes.

Sometimes, people are trying to put on muscle, so sometimes it may be adding 20% more of whatever they are eating.  But we only go 20% at a time and always by looking at the food and seeing how you feel.

By doing this, you actually learn to look at food, at your plate and knowing how much you need to eat to obtain the desired goal.  You learn to go by how you feel, and what your goal is versus having to sit there for every meal and weigh and measure all your food.

You can actually go to a restaurant and know how much of what is on the plate you ordered, you should eat because you know what the servings look like.

And like this, my friend, you can still lose weight without being crazy.

Without having to weigh and measure your food, without having to OBSESS over food and think about it all day.  

This is what a lifestyle is.

So, if you are counting calories now, I want you know that it isn’t the only way to losing weight and getting in the best shape of your life.

You can do it this way and get the same result.  I do, and so do my clients and very successfully!

And if you are trying to lose weight, I challenge you to make sure you follow the steps I gave you above.  

Start by making sure you are eating the right foods and at the right times and then take it from there.
