Sounds weird to want to lose fat while pregnant, right?
Thing is, you totally can and its perfectly safe for you and your baby.
Actually, it’s beneficial.
Especially if you started pregnancy overweight.
For the most part, if you start pregnancy overweight, your doctor probably told you he doesn’t want you to gain much weight.
It’s actually quite simple to lose fat.
All you have to do is eat healthy and exercise and if you do, your body will burn FAT FOR ENERGY.
Thing is so many women use pregnancy as a reason to eat more (eat for 2), even though it’s not necessary and to indulge in all cravings and not be active.
So many women actually gain a lot of weight during pregnancy.
All we need is 200 extra calories a day during pregnancy.
That’s like an apple and almonds.
I had several pregnant clients when I was still doing one on one personal training and so many of them lost weight the first trimester... like 10 lbs because they stopped drinking alcohol, were now wanting to eat healthy for the baby and they wanted to exercise.
This was way more than they were doing pre-pregnancy and because of it, they lost weight.
Their doctors weren’t a bit concerned and understood why it was happening.
They were burning fat for energy.
And bam, just like that you can lose fat even while pregnant.
It’s funny because even though there’s a ton of women who do over indulge in food, eat for 2 and don’t workout while pregnant because they feel like if they ever can do all of that its during pregnancy….
I have found there is a whole other set of women who were not really into working out or eating healthy pre-pregnancy but because of the baby and pregnancy they were motivated to do all the things and they worked out and ate healthy and just like my clients they actually see crazy good results.
I can’t tell you how many of the ladies that do my Fit Mom To Be Workouts tell me they are more toned and in better shape while pregnant than before.
Insane, I know.
But it happens often.
And hopefully, you will be one of those.
I just wanted to make sure to put you at ease that you losing fat is not going to hurt the baby AT ALL.
On the contrary…. It is good for the baby.
Remember that most of your baby’s development and growth is done via nutrients and vitamins.
There are so many nutrients and vitamins that are VITAL to the fetus’ development.
Protein, for example is how your baby’s tissues and organs and brain develop and grow.
That is why I knew that I the first supplement I formulated was a protein powder because most pregnant women have a hard time eating enough protein.
mPower is a protein powder formulated by a doctor, specifically for pregnant women.
It also has a medical grade prenatal in it.
And during the first trimester when most women gain most the weight because they are nauseous and have food aversions and cravings, its super easy and simple and yummy to just have a delicious protein smoothie or shake.
So if you think a shake or smoothie can help you get more protein in and some vital vitamins, you will love mPower, click here to check it out.
USE FAT AS ENERGY
There is no reason to fear doing this.
Using fat as energy is not going to take anything away from your baby.
Using fat as energy just means that theres no excess sugar for your body to use as energy and so it uses fat.
But your baby still gets all the nutrients he/she needs.
You are still eating enough, you are not cutting calories but you are cutting empty calories, sugar and processed foods high in saturated fat.
When you do this and you exercise…. you use fat as energy and you lose weight.
Unwanted, un-necessary weight.
Baby is fine, and mama is looking hot lol
Nutrition is everything, especially during pregnancy.
So much of your baby’s health and body is growing and developing with vitamins and nutrients.
This is the reason why I decided to add the vitamins to our protein powder supplement line.
I know that doctors don’t educate their patients enough about this because they don’t know nutrition even though they are amazing and delivering babies.
But things like the neural and visual development of your baby needs fish oil.
Did you know that?
It also helps prevent pre-term labor and delivery, lower the risk of preeclampsia and may increase birth weight.
I’ve already told you the benefits of the other must-have pregnancy vitamin D for pregnancy and baby, but as you can see, nutrition and supplementation matters and it matters A LOT.

So get excited that you can lose fat while pregnant.
That you don’t have to wait until after the baby is here to start working on yourself.
You can start losing fat and gaining muscle now.
The next thing you have to do is gain muscle.
Muscle is the actual location in the body where fat attaches and is burned.
The more muscle you have, the greater your ability to burn fat.
You’ve probably heard that saying before, now you know why.
Growing and maintaining muscle uses up a lot of energy, its metabolically active tissue so it burns a lot of calories.
You want muscle while pregnant.
Not only will it help you control weight gain, it will also help you lose or burn UN-WANTED, UN-NECESSARY FAT.
How to you gain muscle?
The best way is WEIGHT TRAINING.
What’s even better is that just 3 weight workouts a week will help you gain muscle, tone up, lose unwanted fat and also strengthen and prep your body for labor.
Here is a quick 15 minute pregnancy workout you can do at home.
These are all the reasons why I’m a broken record about lifting weights during pregnancy.
So whether you started off pregnancy over weight or you just had a rough 1st trimester and gained a lot weight now or maybe you’re even in the 3rd trimester and wishing you did something before….
Maybe you were fit before pregnancy and are afraid of the weight gain and you worked really hard and long to finally get in shape and you are afraid all that work was in vain if you gain it all back this pregnancy and then can’t lose it…..
THE ANSWER IS EAT CLEAN & WORKOUT.
I know…. that simple.
You don’t need to diet.
- Just don’t eat for 2.
- Cut out sugar.
- Cut out processed and pre-packaged foods.
- Eat a small healthy meal every few hours to prevent cravings.
- Eat highly nutritious foods.
- Eat a variety of foods so you get tons of vitamins and nutrients.
- Eat healthy fats.
- Eat more protein.
- Eat veggies.
- Drink more water.
- Have a healthy snack in between meals.
