How To Detox Your Body & A Detox Drink Recipe 

Have you ever done a detox?  If you have, what was the reason to detox your body?

Was it to lose weight fast?

So many people do a detox for the wrong reasons.

Most people do a detox because they want to lose weight fast so they do these detoxes that are basically just a starvation diet, if you can call it that because most of the times its just drinking pure liquids all day.

Now, listen………

I am not discrediting some of these detoxes as some of them do work.  The thing is that people do them for the wrong reasons and so they lose 5-10 lbs. in just 1-2 weeks and then they go back to eating normal or the way they used to and guess what happens?

Yep, they gain those 5-10 lbs. right back and sometimes more.

My Concern With Detoxes

My concern with these calorie deprivation detoxes are that people do lose weight and quickly.  

I mean, who wouldn’t lose weight when you just have 3-4 shakes or juices per day and don’t eat anything else.

I’m not concerned that people lose weight, I’m happy when people get results.  
I’m concerned with the after math.

You see, when you do something that gives you quick results, you immediately think that is the only way.

So guess what will happen after you lose 10 lbs. in a week or 2?

You know it!

You will want to do a detox all the time because you will believe that is “The only way you can lose weight and fast”.

Then, you will not be doing a detox for the right reasons and actually what you end up doing is SLOWING METABOLISM which makes it even harder to lose weight.

The Real Reason To Detox Your Body

The real reason to detox your diet is to reduce inflammation in your digestive track.

Inflammation in your gut or digestive track makes it incredibly hard, if not impossible for you to BURN FAT.  I mean, it’s so serious that when you do have inflammation in your gut, no matter how few calories you eat or how many hours of exercise you do every day……..  you will not be able to burn fat effectively, so you WILL NOT LOSE WEIGHT.

You also want to create a more alkaline environment in your gut.  We tend to have a very acidic gut because of our diet.

So the reason to detox your body is to create an alkaline environment in your digestive track that is free of inflammation so that you can burn fat more effectively so that you can lose weight and reach your goals and so that you have increased energy, better mood, repaired immune function, etc.

I do have my clients do detoxes but usually 3-4 times a year.  

The detoxes I have my clients do have food in them. 

Yep, they can still eat.  Isn’t that great?

You can still get the effects of a detox without starving yourself, being cranky and moody and have no energy for days or weeks and then you don’t fall off the wagon later because you have been starving for so long which is what usually happens after a calorie deprivation detox.

How To Detox Your Body Without Starving

1.  Get rid of all inflammatory foods and acidic foods from your diet.

2.  Take a digestzyme (enzyme to aid in digestion).

3.  Take a few supplements that aid in reducing inflammation (powdered greens and glutamine).

I use the Powdered Greens from Dale’s Raw Foods, they have them in a few different flavors and I just add them to my protein shake twice a day with glutamine in them.

As far as protein powder, I use and recommend Prograde because its a good quality and not bad for the price.  Its pointless to drink a protein powder that is full of terrible ingredients that aren’t even absorbable.  So its worth it to invest in a good quality.

Start by drinking a Lemon Energizer before breakfast.

Mix together 8 oz. of hot water, juice of 1/2 lemon and pinch of cayenne pepper.


Getting Rid Of Inflammation

The first thing you need to do in order to detox your body is to get rid of all the inflammatory and acidic foods from your diet.  This doesn’t mean you don’t eat, you are just getting rid of certain foods.

I gave you a huge list here of acidic foods.

As far as INFLAMMATORY FOODS, I created a list for you of the top 5 inflammatory foods.  I actually took these out of my diet and I have seen some tremendous change, especially in the MIDSECTION/Belly area.

This is me after my second baby and I show you this not to brag but because I have never had such a defined midsection.  I have been in good shape for many years but never had ABS like this, so it works.


I put these inflammatory foods into a PDF so that you can print it out and put it in your kitchen.  I also gave you some foods you must eat all the time if you want to lose fat effectively and speed metabolism.  And I also put together 5 of my favorite ABS Exercises that have helped me see great results in the belly after having kids.

By the way, before I give you the recipe, I just want to give you some tips that will help you if you are trying to lose weight, get leaner, get more definition, feel more energy, get healthier, and more toned.

Because it’s not just about cooking even though it’s a big part of it.

I have found that a lot of people are “STUCK” with their weight loss because they are eating some of the wrong foods.

So I have to make sure you are not eating one or more of foods on this list.  Because if you are, it can be completely SABOTAGING your results.  Yes, it can totally be true that you can be working your butt off at the gym 6 days a week, eating super healthy (as you think), but if you are eating one or more of these foods, you will NOT BE ABLE TO LOSE WEIGHT.  The reason is because these foods though some may think are healthy or not so bad, are actually very inflammatory.

Inflammation in the digestive track makes it incredibly hard if not impossible to burn fat. So in order to be able to burn fat so you can lose weight effectively, its crucial that you take these foods out of your diet.

Be CONSISTENT with your PLAN and be SYSTEMIC & STRATEGIC about it.   If you do, you will be finally able to say “It’s a LIFESTYLE”.  Because when it really is a “lifestyle”, your body and life reflect it.

Here is a yummy Detox Drink I made the other day.  You can make this and drink a few glasses a day.

Lemon-MintGer Detox Drink
Write a review
  1. 1 lemon
  2. 1 lime
  3. 1/2 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  4. fresh mint leaves
  5. 1 cucumber sliced
  6. 2 quarts of water
  7. Agave to taste (optional)
  1. Grate half the lemon and lime and place in a pitcher with the water and rest of the ingredients.
  2. Then slice the lemon and lime and add to the pitcher.
  3. Mix well and store in the refrigerator.
